Chris catches up with the Olympic Flame in Hope, British Columbia. While there, he learns the art of carving wood with a chainsaw from master carver Pete Ryan. Watch those wood chips fly! Chris then travels on to Chilliwack, where he witnesses the Flame being transported on a motorcycle!
Chris starts his day with the Olympic Flame at Seton Lake before heading to join the residents of Lillooet for their Torch Relay Community Celebration. He then leaves the Vancouver, Coast and Mountains region for Cache Creek in the Thompson Okanagan. Cache Creek is known for its gold and gems, and Chris learns about carving jade, British Columbia’s provincial gemstone.
Chris Wheeler joins friends Kris and Jose as they hit the slopes at Whistler Mountain in British Columbia during Day 99 of the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay.
They then go ziptrecking w/ Ziptrek Ecotours before heading over to Whistler Village and enjoy the afternoon celebrations and to witness Steve Podborski, 1980 Downhill Bronze Medalist, ski down Whistler Mountain w/ the Torch.
Chris follows the Olympic Flame as it journeys through the Sunshine Coast in the Vancouver, Coast and Mountains region of British Columbia. He visits with a group of local artisans and learns to spin yarn. After making a good start on a brand new spun scarf, Chris heads to Sechelt’s Torch Relay celebration to enjoy the event with the locals.
Chris starts his day at a traditional First Nations fire blessing ceremony for the Olympic Flame in Fort Rupert, Vancouver Island. He then journeys to Comox where he catches up with the Flame on board a BC Ferries vessel heading for Powell River in the Vancouver, Coast and Mountains region. The Olympic Flame journeys by ferry from Prince Rupert in Northern British Columbia, through to Bella Bella in the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast region before docking in Port Hardy on Vancouver Island. Chris takes a boat tour from Port Hardy to check out marine wildlife and First Nations sites. He then watches the Flame being carried on a traditional First Nations canoe to the town of Port Hardy.
Chris Wheeler hits the slopes at Shames Mountain Ski Resort in Terrace, British Columbia during Day 95 of the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. He indulges in a “Sneaky Pete” during apres ski before journeying into Terrace to see the afternoon celebrations. Situated on the Skeena River in Northern British Columbia, Terrace offers world class fishing opportunities in addition to many other year-round outdoor activities.
As Chris travels west to catch up with the Olympic Flame in Terrace, he reports on Torch Relay events and community activities in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, British Columbia. Dawson Creek residents cheer on the Flame while enjoying the area’s rich variety of outdoor winter activities. In Fort St. John, residents gather at an ice carving festival as they await the Torch Relay’s journey through their community. Chris catches the Flame and the sunrise over Prince George from the stunning campus at the University of Northern British Columbia. He heads to Smithers to take in the Spirit of the Mountains community festival. Chris goes cross-country skiing with members of the Bulkley Valley Nordic Club who have been chosen as nordic event officials for the 2010 Games. Chris finishes the day by joining the Smithers community at their evening Torch Relay Celebration.
